As the world slowly moves towards 4G mobile networks we will start to see a whole lot of tests of LTE systems. Softbank has recently announced that they will start to test a full-spec LTE system in Kitakyushu in Fukuoka prefecture in March next year. The system will consist of 3 base stations that are interconnected and organized through a central control.
Wireless Watch Japan writes that Softbank has gotten ministry approval for the trials on the 1.5GHz spectrum which hopefully means that there wont be any complications when it comes to rolling out the full system in the future.
RBBToday writes in an article (Japanese) about the trial and all the specs. Although it only is a small test including a minimal three base stations it is still definitely a step in the right direction, and hopefully we will be able to see a lot of LTE competition between the mayor players soon. I have translated a picture of the trial system here; ![]()
